CNN was slammed on social media after Donald Trump got a standing ovation and applause at the Kaitlan Collins-led townhall.
“CNN should be ashamed of themselves. They have lost total control of this “town hall” to again be manipulated into platforming election disinformation, defenses of Jan 6th, and a public attack on a sexual abuse victim. The audience is cheering him on and laughing at the host,” AOC tweeted.

In reaction to this, many people on social media, especially Twitter, voiced their opinions, mostly trolling CNN and moderator Kaitlan Collins.
One of them tweeted, “So embarrassing for Kaitlin Collins and CNN. She keeps lying, towing the state media line. @jaketapper makes a bigger fool of himself when it ended calling Trump a liar. What a complete FIASCO for CNN. The audience gave Trump a standing ovation!”

Another user tweeted, “What an absolute failure your moderator was tonight. And your anchors are live trashing President Trump as he gets a standing ovation at the town hall. What a complete Joke you are. WE THE PEOPLE are not going to let go of the Fraudulent Election.”
The town hall was held while Donald Trump deals with numerous legal issues.
Trump answered questions about the economy and policies while unwilling to answer if, if elected to a second term, he would sign a federal abortion ban. Also, he advocated for Republicans to oppose raising the debt ceiling if the White House does not consent to spending cuts.
In addition, the former president refused to admit his defeat in the 2020 election. Likewise, when asked by Kaitlan Collins whether he would accept the results of the 2024 election no matter the outcome, Trump stated, “If it’s an honest election, I will.”
Furthermore, the ex-President once more deflected responsibility for the incidents at the US Capitol on January 6, 2021. Also, he stated that he would pardon many of the rioters who broke into the Capitol that day.
