Authorities in Texas said on Saturday that a man had taken hostages during service at the Congregation Beth Israel synagogue in Colleyville, Texas.

The service was being live-streamed from the synagogue when the hostages were taken. Local media outlet Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that an angry man could be heard negotiating with the police over the livestream. The Star-Telegram further reported that the man mentioned his sister and Islam several times, used profanities, and repeatedly said that he was about to die.

“You got to do something. I don’t want to see this guy dead,” the man said shortly before 2pm local time, before the feed to the live-stream got cut.

CNN has reported that the FBI are on the scene and handling the negotiations with the alleged hostage taker. The Colleyville Police Department, meanwhile, have said that SWAT operations are underway and that there was “no threat to the general public” as the area surrounding the synagogue had been evacuated. The police have also instructed residents to steer clear of the area till the situation is resolved.

ABC News and CNN have reported that sources have said that the man has taken a rabbi, and at least three others hostages. Reports also suggest that the man has planted an unknown number of bombs in unknown location in the synagogue.

Further, a US official familiar with the evolving situation told ABC News that the hostage taker has claimed that he is the brother of convicted terrorist Aafia Siddiqui, who is incarcerated at the Carswell Air Force Base near Fort Worth. She was convicted for the murder of of a US solider in 2010 and is serving a prison sentence of 86 years for the crime. However, at the time of writing, the identity of the hostage taker had not been confirmed.
