The Nashville Police Chief, John Drake, has expressed his concerns about gun violence and mental illness in the wake of the latest school shooting that claimed the lives of six people, including three students.

Drake’s daughter is considering homeschooling her son due to the recent school shootings, and the Chief is pleading with Congress to take action to address the issue. Drake emphasized the need to make schools a safe place for children, where they can learn and grow without fear.

The motive behind the school shooting is still unknown, but Drake revealed that investigators believe the shooter had some resentment for attending the school. Drake stressed the importance of addressing gun violence and mental illness to make schools safe for children.

According to the K-12 School Shooting Database, Monday’s attack was the 90th school shooting in the United States this year. The rising numbers have cut into public school enrollment, leading to renewed debates over how closely homeschooling should be regulated.

Drake supported a bill in the Tennessee state house that would force people not to leave guns unattended. However, the vote on the bill was delayed due to the Covenant shooting.

Drake believes that gun ownership comes with serious responsibility, including securing guns, particularly in vehicles, so that they do not fall into the hands of thieves and violent criminals. He stressed that law enforcement has a problem in this regard.

Hale, the shooter, legally bought seven firearms from five local gun stores, according to Drake. Three of them were used in Monday’s shooting. Hale was under a doctor’s care for an undisclosed emotional disorder, and the police had no prior knowledge of the shooter. If the police had known that Hale was suicidal or homicidal, they would have tried to get those weapons, according to Drake.

The rising number of school shootings is a cause for concern, and parents are increasingly turning to homeschool as a safer alternative. It is time for lawmakers to take this issue seriously and work towards creating a safer environment for children in schools.
