A gunman opened fire on a July 4 parade in Highland Park, Illinois, killing at least 6 and injuring 24. Shots were reportedly fired 10 minutes after the parade began, and several parade-goers were hit, sending people running to safety, Fox32 reported.
One onlooker recorded the people fleeing after hearing sounds of gunshots. The person recording the clip keeps repeating they can’t believe they’re hearing gunfire.
The Chicago Sun-Times, quoting witnesses, reported that at least five bloodied people were found down on the ground. The police told the crowd to disperse, citing security concerns.
Representatives Bob Morgan and Brad Schneider, who were present there, are both safe.
Morgan, who represents the 58th district of Illinois, said “For those unaware, there was a shooting at the Highland Park Parade. I am ok but there have been multiple injuries. Please stay out of the area, stay safe, and please pray for those injured”.

Schneider, who represents the 10th district in the US Congress added, “Hearing of loss of life and others injured. My condolences to the family and loved ones; my prayers for the injured and for my community; and my commitment to do everything I can to make our children, our towns, our nation safer. Enough is enough!”
The Highland Park shootout comes on the heels of the Robb Elementary School shootout at Uvalde, Texas, that left 19 children and two adults dead, as well as the racially motivated shootout in Buffalo. There have been calls for increased gun control in the US, but many have pushed back against compromising on their Second Amendment rights.
