Xi%u2019s%20confidence%20also%20stems%20from%20China%u2019s%20strong%20economic%20performance%20in%202020%2C%20as%20it%20achieved%202.3%25%20GDP%20growth%2C%20the%20only%20major%20economy%20to%20do%20so.%20Its%20foreign%20trade%20increased%20to%20%24%204.65%20trillion%20in%202020%2C%20the%20highest%20level%20since%201950%2C%20with%20exports%20increasing%20by%2018.1%25%20and%20imports%206.5%25%20over%202019%20obtaining%20a%20trade%20surplus%20of%20%24%20535%20billion%3B%20even%20exports%20to%20the%20USA%20increased%20by%20about%208%25%20despite%20sanctions%20levied%20by%20the%20Trump%20administration.%20China%20is%20expected%20to%20surpass%20the%20US%20economy%20in%20dollar%20terms%20by%202028%2C%20five%20years%20earlier%20than%20previously%20projected.

The%20experience%20of%20the%20past%20four%20years%20of%20the%20Trump%20administration%20which%20was%20most%20hawkish%20on%20China%20suggests%20that%20its%20economic%20policies%2C%20i.e.%20imposition%20of%20tariffs%2C%20sanctions%20for%20denial%20of%20sensitive%20technologies%2C%20efforts%20for%20shifting%20of%20global%20supply%20chains%20away%20from%20China%20have%20had%20little%20or%20no%20impact%20on%20China%u2019s%20policies.%20Biden%20administration%20wants%20to%20pursue%20the%20same%20objectives%20by%20seeking%20cooperation%20of%20its%20allies%20and%20partners.%20It%20is%20difficult%20to%20say%20how%20much%20these%20efforts%20would%20succeed%20and%20with%20what%20impact%20in%20the%20absence%20of%20the%20roll%20out%20of%20the%20China%20policy%20of%20the%20new%20Biden%20administration.

China%20has%20two%20main%20vulnerabilities%20at%20present.%20It%20has%20established%20itself%20as%20the%20low%20cost%20manufacturing%20capital%20of%20the%20world%20using%20a%20bouquet%20of%20unfair%20policies%2C%20i.e.%20low%20cost%20credit%20to%20its%20industries%2C%20denial%20of%20market%20access%20to%20other%20countries%2C%20stealing%20of%20foreign%20technologies%20and%20others.%20Can%20the%20Biden%20administration%20together%20with%20its%20allies%20and%20partners%2C%20put%20enough%20pressure%20on%20Beijing%20multilaterally%20or%20plurilaterally%2C%20to%20amend%20these%20policies%20towards%20fair%20international%20trade%3F

Secondly%2C%20the%20gap%20in%20development%20of%20new%20technologies%20such%20as%205G%2C%20artificial%20intelligence%20%28AI%29%2C%20new%20materials%20and%20quantum%20computing%20between%20the%20USA%20and%20China%20is%20narrowing.%20China%20is%20rapidly%20developing%20new%20weapon%20systems%20to%20project%20power%20overseas%20such%20as%20long%20range%20bombers%2C%20stealth%20fighters%2C%20hypersonic%20and%20AI%20based%20weapons%2C%20aircraft%20carriers%2C%20destroyers%20and%20others%3B%20China%20is%20trying%20to%20overcome%20the%20disadvantage%20in%20quality%20of%20its%20weapon%20systems%20by%20manufacturing%20and%20deploying%20these%20in%20bigger%20numbers.%20Also%2C%20China%20will%20have%20the%20advantage%20of%20proximity%20in%20any%20near%20military%20conflicts%20with%20the%20USA.%20Latter%20on%20the%20other%20hand%20has%20the%20benefit%20of%20its%20large%20number%20of%20allies%2C%20military%20bases%2C%20battle%20hardened%20military%2C%20superior%20doctrines%20and%20weapon%20systems.%26nbsp%3B

The%20biggest%20challenge%20for%20the%20US%20credibility%20now%20is%20how%20soon%20it%20can%20reconcile%20its%20internal%20divisions%2C%20put%20its%20economy%20on%20the%20path%20of%20high%20growth%2C%20leapfrog%20its%20leadership%20in%20development%20of%20emerging%20technologies%20and%20newer%20generation%20of%20weapon%20systems%20and%20convince%20its%20allies%20and%20partners%20that%20it%20would%20come%20to%20their%20assistance%20in%20a%20conflict%20with%20China.%20In%20order%20for%20this%20credibility%20to%20be%20visible%20and%20effective%2C%20the%20US%20would%20need%20to%20redeploy%20more%20of%20its%20military%20assets%20at%20a%20number%20of%20land%20and%20offshore%20bases%2C%20closer%20to%20China%20to%20deter%20latter%u2019s%20aggressive%20forays.%20It%20will%20need%20to%20enhance%20the%20economic%2C%20technological%20and%20military%20capacities%20of%20its%20allies%20and%20partners%20in%20the%20frontline%20against%20China.%26nbsp%3B

Though%20the%20Biden%20administration%20has%20acknowledged%20that%20China%20is%20its%20biggest%20competitor%2C%20it%20will%20have%20to%20display%20by%20its%20actions%20that%20it%20is%20prepared%20to%20lead%20and%20win%20the%20competition%20against%20an%20aggressive%20and%20rising%20China.%20If%20China%20perceives%20that%20the%20USA%20is%20weak%20or%20lacks%20in%20determination%2C%20it%20will%20only%20expand%20its%20growing%20aggression%20and%20hegemony%20in%20Asia%20and%20later%20in%20the%20world%20to%20reshape%20it%20more%20in%20its%20favour.
