Democratic Presidential candidate Joe Biden will travel to Kenosha, Wisconsin, on Thursday, his campaign told AFP.

This comes after President Donald Trump’s visit to the city amid protests against racism and police brutality.

A statement from Biden’s team on Wednesday stated, “Former vice-president Biden will hold a community meeting in Kenosha to bring together Americans to heal and address the challenges we meet.”

Biden’s visit to Kenosha comes after a black man, Jacob Blake, was shot seven times in the back by a police officer.

President Donald Trump visited Kenosha on Tuesday where he voiced his support for police officials and added that the police had done a good job while handling the protests.

Biden will travel with wife Jill Biden and the couple will make an unspecified ‘local stop’.

Wisconsin is expected to play an integral part in the US elections come November. Trump had won the state in 2016 and the Republican President visited Kenosha on Tuesday despite the wish of the Democrat mayor and governor, who felt Trump’s presence would stoke tensions.

Violent protests raged the city the night Blake was shot.

On August 25, two people were shot dead by a 17-year-old.

President Trump, however, has equated the people protesting in Kenosha as “domestic terror”. Trump on his visit to Kenosha, however, did not meet with the family of Jacob Blake.
