Residents in the area of Ebel Church Road and M H Drive in Denton, North Carolina have been asked to shelter in place as North Carolina Highway Patrol said it’s assisting the Davidson County Sheriff’s office during a “very active situation” on Thursday.

At 2 a.m. on Thursday, residents were asked by authorities to avoid the area and to shelter in place, securing their doors and windows.

Police vehicles and ambulances were seen in the area of Sexton Road and Ebel Church Road. Sexton Road had been cordoned off. Some Davidson County school bus routes were altered to avoid the closure, t

Helicopters and SWAT team members were present in the area and witnesses said there were sporadic reports of gunshots being heard. Troopers were seen casing up to two to three miles from the incident site.

“Very Active Situation ongoing in the area Ebel Rd and M H Dr. Aviod the area. Citizens in the area need to shelter in place and secure all doors and windows. More information will be released by DCSO at a later time once made available,” the Denton Fire Department wrote on Facebook.

No other information is currently available about a possible shooting.
