Dianne Feinstein is 89 years old. The California lawmaker returned to the Senate after a months-long absence due to illness, leading to Twitter users discussing term limits.

With Feinstein in the house, Democrats have restored their 51-49 majority to full strength. The 89-year-old is in a wheelchair. She has held her California seat since 1992 and was mayor of San Francisco from 1978 to 1988.

Feinstein was recovering from a bout of shingles.

“I’m glad that my friend Dianne is back in the Senate and ready to roll up her sleeves and get to work. After talking with her multiple times over the past few weeks, it’s clear she’s back where she wants to be and ready to deliver for California,” Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said in a statement.

She was first elected in 1992, making California the first state to be represented by two women. Democrat Barbara Boxer was the other one.

Dianne Feinstein issued a statement following her return to Washington DC. “Even though I’ve made significant progress and was able to return to Washington, I’m still experiencing some side effects from the shingles virus. My doctors have advised me to work a lighter schedule as I return to the Senate. I’m hopeful those issues will subside as I continue to recover,” she said.

Videos of Feinstein, in a wheelchair, being escorted onto the Senate floor by Schumer were shared on social media. The California politician’s office, as per ABC7’s Liz Kreutz, said that she is currently experiencing vision/balance impairments.

“Term limits people!! 275 years in office isnt a good look on anyone,” a Twitter user said.

“Term limits, voter ID and paper ballots, ASAP!” another one added.
