Donald
Trump, former President of the United States, said Saturday that the Senate minority
leader Mitch McConnell has a “death wish”. Trump has been critical of McConnell
since he lost the 2020 elections (a fact the former president refuses to
believe), and his comments seem to be triggered by some Democrat sponsored
bills that gained bipartisan support.
Trump,
writing on his social media website Truth Social, asked if McConnell had
supported the bills “because he hates Donald J Trump, and he knows I am opposed
to them,” adding: “He has a DEATH WISH.”
“Is
McConnell approving all these Trillions of Dollars worth of Democrat sponsored
Bills, without even the slightest bit of negotiation, because he hates Donald J
Trump, and he knows I am strongly opposed to them, or is he doing it because he
believes in the Fake and Highly Destructive Green New Deal, and is willing to
take the Country down with him. He has a DEATH WISH. Must immediately seek help
and advise from his China loving wife, Coco Chow!”
It’s not
immediately clear which bills Trump is referencing while he slams McConnell. On
Thursday, the Senate passed a bill to keep the government funded in a 75-25
vote that will prevent a government shutdown. McConnell has also indicated that
he will support a Democrat-sponsored bill against election subversion.
Following
Trump’s comments, Democrats and others on social media slammed the former
president for his violent rhetoric. But Trump spokesperson Taylor Budowich was
quick to defend the president.
“Mitch
McConnell is killing the Republican Party through weakness and cowardice. He obviously
has a political death wish for himself and Republican Party,” Budowich said in
an email to NBC News, adding, “but President Trump and the America First
champions in Congress will save the Republican Party and our nation.”
Donald
Trump’s tensions which Mitch McConnell began after January 6 attacks on the
United State Capitol. Until then, McConnell and Trump shared a good
relationship. It was McConnell who helped Trump fill Supreme Court vacancies.
However, after the Jan 6 episode and McConnell’s public criticism of Trump, the
relationship soured.
While
attacking McConnell, Trump has also turned it into a habit to make a snide
remark against the Senator’s wife. Elaine Chow, McConnell’s wife and a former
transportation secretary in the Trump administration.
