US President Donald Trump has been formally nominated as the official Republican candidate for the US presidential elections in November. He was re-nominated following a roll call of votes from elected GOP delegates from all the 50 states at the Republican National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Just after the nomination, Trump appeared on stage to deliver a rambling speech that lasted close to an hour. Here are the top quotes from his speech:
Trump on the validity of the elections
During his speech, Trump said that the Democrats are using COVID-19 to win the elections. He said, “They’re using Covid to defraud the American people, all of the people, of a fair and free election, and they can’t do that.”
He also claimed that the election will be rigged and said, “The only way they can take this election away from us is – this is a rigged election. We’re going to win this election, we’re going to win this election.”
Trump on employment
Trump talked about how his administration was able to overcome unemployment during the pandemic. He said, “We just broke a record on jobs, an all-time record. There’s never been three months when we’ve put more people to work. We’re just about ready to break the all-time stock market record.”
Trump on the pandemic situation in the US
Regarding his much criticised handling of the COVID-19 pandemic in the US, he said, “Convalescent plasma, you saw remdesivir, you’ll soon see vaccines pouring out years ahead of what they would have been under a more traditional, let’s use that term because it’s nicer, a more traditional administration where they would have taken years to come up with this stuff. We’re coming up with it like nobody’s ever seen before.”
Trump on Joe Biden
Attacking Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s campaign, Trump said, “He can’t do it. The radical left will demand he appoints super-radical-left wild crazy justices going into the Supreme Court.”
Trump on the November 3 elections
At the Republican convention, Trump told delegates, “This is the most important election in the history of our country, don’t let them take it away from you.”
