As Don’t Look Up hits selective theatres today, Netflix viewers eagerly wait for its Netflix release on December 24, 2021.

Launching on Christmas Eve, the film is a perfect Christmas flick to watch with friends and family. This Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence starrer is a satirical take on an asteroid disaster waiting to happen, as the astronauts frantically try to explain to the world the gravity of the situation. As the two low-level astronomers try their best to bring the asteroid catastrophe to the public’s attention, news organizations, the authorities and even the US President dismiss their claim.

The movie aims to capture people and their understanding of warnings, or lack thereof. The movie is slightly inspired by the coronavirus pandemic itself, and how the public and authority figures reacted to it.

Originally planned for release in 2020, the movie was pushed back after the pandemic struck, much like the asteroid in the film.

The movie stars some A-lister celebrities in lead and supporting roles, such as Cate Blanchett, Meryl Streep, Chris Evans, Ariana Grande, Jonah Hill, Rob Morgan, Tyler Perry, Himesh Patel, Matthew Perry, Timothée Chalamet and more.

Director Adam McKay co-wrote the movie with David Sirota, an American journalist at The Guardian.

The teaser was released in September, and instantly garnered lots of attention, with many speculating that the film would be a massive success that might even bag an Oscar.
