Tesla CEO Elon Musk is popular for his businesses, wealth, relationships, and a host of other things. The top pick among those would most definitely be his presence on Twitter. From memes to market-moving tweets, Musk offers the entire range.

Musk on Tuesday changed his name on the social media site to Naughtius Maximus. His updated bio now reads, “Centurion in Jerusalem Garrison.” The 51-year-old also changed the display image of his profile to one old frame with a picture from his childhood.

The SpaceX founder did not provide any immediate explanation for these changes. The internet however erupted with curiosity and of course a fair bit of humour.

“Why did #ElonMusk changed his name to Naughtius Maximus?” asked one user.

“Cracks me up seeing @elonmusk as “Naughtius Maximus”. I like the name,” another user expressed their appreciation.

Soon after he made the changes, Musk tweeted a single popcorn emoji.

That did not evade the notice of Twitter users either. One person quoted the tweet to ask rhetorically, “NAUGHTIUS MAXIMUS CENTURION IN JERUSALEM GARRISON Are you not entertained?”

Later, Musk tweeted, “Rome show is underappreciated,” with the trailer link of the TV show.

This would, deductively, answer why Musk went on to proclaim himself as Naughtius Maximus on Twitter. He was drawing inspiration from the show. Assuredly, the world’s richest man is also just another fan like the rest of us.

It is worth noting that all of this coincided with Twitter whistleblower Peiter “Mudge” Zatko‘s appearance before Congress, indicating the billionaire may be monitoring the proceedings.

Musk requested to end his deal to purchase Twitter for $44 billion in a third letter that was addressed to the company on Friday. According to the most recent letter, Twitter allegedly paid Zatko, its former head of security, $7.75 million.
