The Fort Wayne International Airport (FWA) on Friday evacuated all staff, employees, and passengers after receiving a potential security threat. However, the airport authorities, a few hours later, in the afternoon, informed that the terminal building had been reopened, and passengers will be able to enter soon.

“The Airport Terminal Building is now OPEN. Passengers who were evacuated are being reprocessed through TSA. Passengers with outbound flights are able to enter the Airport campus,” the authorities posted on Twitter.

“If you have a flight later this evening please give yourself extra time”

According to NBC reports, a marketing specialist at the Indiana airport said they received a potential threat to airport and passenger safety and security.

Following the threat, the airport public safety responded quickly to the threat. Passengers and airport staff were evacuated. Local mutual aid was deployed to investigate the situation.

Officials said the US Transportation Security Administration alerted FWA about a threat that was sent via Twitter. FWA said they noticed a package that had some “abnormalities.”

A passenger onboard a flight at FWA suddenly decided to get off the flight, airport officials say.

Although not confirmed if the incidents were related or unrelated, they added up to be enough concern that officials at the airport called in the Fort Wayne Bomb Squad to investigate.

Following which the Airport’s Twitter account said the facility was evacuated shortly before 3:30 p.m. due to “a potential threat to airport and passenger safety and security.”
