The FBI confirmed on Tuesday that the previously unidentified remains found earlier this week were of Gabby Petito, a 22-year-old woman who went missing months after departing for a cross country road trip with her boyfriend.
Authorities also confirmed that Petito was a victim of homicide. However, full details about the killing were not made public as final autopsy results were still pending.
Petito’s remains were found late last week in north Wyoming along the border of Grand Teton National Park in an underdeveloped camping area. The investigations on the body were carried out by Brent Blue, a Teton County Coroner.

Meanwhile, authorities continue to search a swampy Florida preserve area near the home of Petito’s boyfriend, according to reports from Associated Press.
Police in North Port, Florida, said Tuesday morning that investigators have returned to the Carlton Reserve to look for Brian Laundrie, who is 23 years old.
The young couple had set out in July in a converted van to visit national parks in the West. They got into a fight along the way, and Laundrie was alone when he returned in the van to his parents’ home on September 1, the police said.

In an interview broadcast Monday on ‘Dr. Phil’ show, Joseph Petito, the father of the 22-year-old woman, said Laundrie and his daughter had dated for 2 1/2 years, and Laundrie was “always respectful.”
During the interview, which was recorded before his daughter’s body was found, Petito said the couple had taken a previous road trip to California in her car and there were no problems, according to Associated Press.
About 24,000 acres of area has already been searched by authorities in Florida, who sought Laundrie but did not find any success. Specialised equipment like drones, helicopters and all-terrain vehicles have been used in the search in the swampy areas.
