According to police, a shootout occurred just before 6 pm, Sunday at Greenwood Park Mall.

Greenwood Police confirm that two people were killed in the incident and three others were injured. According to local media site 13News, the shooter died, but it is unknown whether he is one of the two victims slain or an additional death.

Several people are being treated at nearby hospitals, according to IMPD.

Indiana Senator Todd Young called the incident “terrible news” in a tweet.

“Terrible news tonight in my home county. Praying for the victims of a shooting at the Greenwood Park Mall. Thank you to our law enforcement officers who responded,” his tweet read.

Someone inside the mall reportedly told a 13News reporter that they heard 20 gunshots in the food court at the time of the incident. According to IMPD, the shots appear to have been fired only in the food court area.

Residents are advised to avoid the area while first responders continue to clear the mall. IMPD indicated at a press conference at 7:45 p.m. that there is no known ongoing danger.

Several police units are scanning the mall to make sure no one has been hurt or is still hiding out.

According to IMPD, no motive for the shooting has been found yet.

The IMPD confirmed that witnesses are being questioned.

Located outside of Dick’s Sporting Goods, the mall is heavily policed by Greenwood and Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers, as well as Indiana State Police and other organisations.
