Former POTUS Donald Trump allegedly threatened Sweden with “trade restrictions” over the 2019 arrest of A$AP Rocky.

A TMZ report Friday revealed that Morgan Johansson, the country’s Minister for Justice and Home Affairs, recently opened up about Trump’s alleged bullying. Johansson expressed his concerns about how such threats might impact “slightly weaker” governments.

“If you can try and do something like this against Sweden, what will you then try and do to slightly weaker countries that don’t have the European Union behind them?” Johansson reportedly said.

Three years ago, Stockholm police arrested A$AP Rocky, who was in town for a festival. He and his team had got involved in a street brawl with a couple of guys who were reportedly harassing them.

Donald Trump was made aware about the situation by his friend Kanye West. The then-president instructed his State Department to advocate for Rocky. Trump also took to Twitter at the time talking about how Rocky needed to be freed.

“Very disappointed in Prime Minister Stefan Lofven for being unable to act. Sweden has let our African American Community down in the United States,” Trump wrote at the time, adding, “I watched the tapes of A$AP Rocky, and he was being followed and harassed by troublemakers. Treat Americans fairly. #FreeRocky.”

After weeks in a detention center, Rocky was found guilty of assault and sentenced to time served.

It has come to light now that Rocky’s arrest in Sweden almost triggered an international trade war.

When Rocky was locked up, Trump’s government sent a letter to Sweden, warning of “negative consequences” for the two nations’ relations if Sweden kept the rapper incarcerated.

Sweden’s Prime Minister slammed Trump, saying the POTUS would not influence the outcome of Rocky’s case. Two weeks after his arrest, A$AP Rocky was charged. A month after his arrest, Rocky was released.

Though A$AP Rocky later claimed he thanked Trump for any assistance the president had in getting the rapper freed, Trump’s allies labeled the rapper as ungrateful.

“In reality, I had no problem saying thank you to the man, especially if he helped me,” Rocky, according to Rolling Stone. “That’s the narrative they pushin’: That he got me out. And he didn’t free me. If anything, he made it a little worse.”
