Republican Senate candidate Herschel Walker locked horns against Sen. Raphael Warnock in the US Midterm election in Georgia. A judge on Monday agreed to extend the deadline to return absentee ballots for voters in a suburban Atlanta county who didn’t receive their ballots because election officials failed to mail them.

The race between Walker and Warnock is a tight one. 

More than 2.5 million Georgia voters cast advanced ballots, about 20% more than the number who voted early for the 2018 midterms.

Walker, a Republican candidate for the Georgia senate elections, is also a former NFL running back, who played for several teams for 12 seasons during his career. He is 60 years old. 

The Senate candidate finished high school at the Johnson County High School in Wrightsville. He played football, and basketball and ran tracks during high school. Walker played football at the University of Georgia and went on to win the Heisman Trophy in his freshman year in 1982.

He was picked by the Dallas Cowboys in the 1986 NFL draft. He earned successive Pro Bowl and second-team All-Pro honors between 1987-1988. The team then traded him to the Minnesota Vikings in 1989. He also played for the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants.

Walker returned to the Dallas Cowboys later in his career before announcing his retirement. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1999.

He had 8,225 rushing yards against his name. Walker also had 61 rushing touchdowns. The Senate candidate had 512 receptions and 4,859 receiving yards. He had 21 receiving touchdowns. 

Following his NFL retirement, Walker joined politics. The 60-year-old was the co-chair of the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition under Donald Trump

The Republican Party nominated him as the candidate for the Senate election 2022.
