Nancy Pelosi, the speaker of the United States House of Representatives, promised that Democrat lawmakers will give a legislative nod to the infrastructure bill this week, according to US media reports.

Pelosi further said that bills related to climate change and social safety net would be receiving a push in the United States House while. The legislations are valued at $3.5 trillion.

The 81-year-old politician said in a statement, “Let me just say that we’re going to pass the bill this week. I am never bringing a bill to the floor that doesn’t have the votes”, according to reports from Associated Press.

She added, “You cannot choose the date. You have to go when you have the votes in a reasonable time, and we will.” The statement was made to indicate a push in the timeline, which was earlier set on Monday.

United States President Joe Biden, who made similar statements this week, when asked about the number of votes the Democratic party could rely on when the $1 trillion infrastructure bill goes up for a vote said, “It’s going to take the better part of this week.”

Still, in a delicate balancing act aimed at achieving the near Democratic unanimity needed to push the sprawling package through, Pelosi made clear that Biden’s proposed $3.5 trillion for social spending and climate initiatives will need to be trimmed, according to reports from Associated Press.

Senators Joe Manchin, who represents the state of West Virginia, and Arizona’s Kyrsten Sinema have already announced that they would not support the legislation in its current form.

In a letter directed towards Democratic lawmakers in the United States House of Representatives, Pelosi, with an undertone of urgency, urged a swift passing of the environmental package in the coming days alongside a separate infrastructure bill and a third measure preventing a government shutdown on Friday.
