Hurricane Idalia has gotten stronger and is now a Category 2 storm with top sustained winds of 100 mph. Officials are warning that when it makes landfall in Florida on Wednesday, it could develop into a catastrophic hurricane.
According to the storm’s projected course, a Category 3 hurricane will make landfall along Florida’s Gulf Coast. Before the hurricane hits, citizens in Florida should make sure they have a preparedness plan in place, according to Governor Ron DeSantis.

Several residents have shared the visuals of coming hurricane Idalia on social media as it approaches the state.
One X user wrote, “This. #Idalia will be a storm many have not seen in modern times for the big bend of the Florida Gulf Coast. High winds and storm surge will change the coastal landscape”
“Will #Idalia make the #ClimateChange deniers think twice about their version of reality? I doubt it. This hurricane will be supercharged by unnaturally high water temperatures in the gulf cause by global heating.” another user wrote.
One user wrote, “Pray for Florida. #Idalia has officially been upgraded to a hurricane.”

In the recent update, all Tuesday departures from Tampa International Airport have already been canceled due to the impact of the impending hurricane. On the other side, Orlando International Airport currently does not foresee any material operations impact.
The Big Bend region of Florida has received a warning from the National Weather Service, advising locals to make any final storm preparations today. The area where the Florida Panhandle and Florida Peninsula meet is known as the “Big Bend”.
Life-threatening storm surge inundation is likely elsewhere along the Florida Gulf Coast where a Storm Surge Warning is in force, according to an earlier report from the NWS Tampa Bay. Residents in this area should heed any recommendations or orders to evacuate issued by local authorities.
The report also stated that the heart of Idalia, with its deadly, devastating winds, is currently approaching Florida’s Big Bend. The low-lying regions of the Gulf Coast have been evacuated, and portions of the coast are under a hurricane warning.
