Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the homicide of four University of Idaho students. The man, who is yet to be identified, was taken into custody near the Pocono Mountains.

Law enforcement sources told NBC and Fox News that the suspect appeared in court Friday morning in connection to the slayings of Ethan Chapin, 20, Xana Kernodle, 20, Kaylee Goncalves, 21, and Madison Mogen, 21. The victims were stabbed to death in a rental  home just yards from campus on Nov. 13.

The circumstances surrounding the nature of the arrest and the suspect’s capture are not immediately known. So far, the investigation had largely come up empty so far. 

Authorities believe the victims were killed while they slept. But some had defensive wounds.

Two female roommates, who lived on the basement level, survived the incident.

The Moscow Police Department received more than 13,000 tips related to the case, in addition to thousands of digital media submissions. 

According to NBC New York, a white Elantra was taken away from the Pennsylvania home where the suspect was apprehended Friday, two senior law enforcement officials said.

“Usually by now, there’s more facts that have been released by law enforcement, so I could see that ramping up the sort of digging and almost grasping at straws by people,” Wiest said. “It’s not that typical, except in high-profile cold cases, where you might see people digging in that way.”

The probe has been led by Moscow police, with several state and federal agents. The Moscow Police Department said that the attacks were “targeted.”
