Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Friday criticised tech
giant Apple for its app store fees while saying Epic Games was right in their
high-profile trial versus Apple.

In the Epic Games versus Apple trial, Epic had
argued before a US district judge that Apple’s dominance over its app market is
monopolistic.

Musk termed the fees as a global internet
tax.  “Apple app store fees are a de
facto global tax on the Internet. Epic is right,” Musk tweeted.

 Though it
would have been an unusual comment for any other CEO, the Tesla chief has taken
to Twitter multiple times in the past to trade barbs and make spontaneous
announcements, and even once to suggest that his company was going private,
resulting in penalties from the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Just this Monday, Musk said that Tesla’s “Full
Self-Driving” product is currently a “debatable” buy for potential
customers. Musk said on Tesla’s earnings call that its “Full Self-Driving”
product is currently a “debatable” buy for potential customers, a comment that
nobody else in his position would have made. He was speaking on Tesla’s
earnings call.

Musk’s
Apple comments are more unusual because he never has had a public feud with the
maker of iPhones.

Apple and Epic Games have been locked in a bitter
legal battle since last year when the gaming giant offered the users of its
popular game ‘Fortnite‘  an alternative
payment method. It was done because of Apple’s 30% commission on app store
sales. Apple had removed the game from its app store.  Both the companies are awaiting a verdict in
a lawsuit that could change Apple’s business model.
