New York declared a state of emergency late Wednesday following floods that killed at least 9 people. “I am declaring a state of emergency to help New Yorkers affected by tonight’s storm,” New York governor Kathy Hochul wrote on Twitter. The record-breaking rains were due to tropical storm Ida. The floods were so severe that MTA suspended service on most subway lines. Photos and videos doing the rounds on social media showed flooding at subway stations, on roads and inside homes.
