About 40 schools in Indiana were affected by a bomb threat, which was apparently sent via email. The FBI and other authorities are investigating the incident – if the warnings were credible or not.

The Noblesville Schools district at about 6:45 AM local time confirmed that it received an anonymous bomb threat via email. The institution added that it has called eLearning on Friday.

“We received bomb threat that was sent to approx 40 districts in Indiana. We have called eLearning to investigate and ensure safety of schools. Some may not be prepared for eLearning and we encourage flexibility. We expect to have an update later today,” it said on Twitter.

Similarly Lebanon Community School Corporation, Southwestern Consolidated Schools of Shelby County and Western School Corporation were amongst the schools that opted for eLearning.

Salem Schools on Facebook said that  the buildings and grounds were searched, and nothing was found. The district added that it it is switching to e-learning “out of an abundance of caution.”

Center Grove Schools and School Town of Speedway shut all operations after the threat.

Edinburgh Community School Corporation said that the threat did not seem credible and the schools are open.

“Late last night ECSC and 34 other school districts received a threat on our schools via email. Law enforcement was immediately notified. Both school buildings were searched last night and again this morning by law enforcement and school administration. This threat has been deemed not credible and we have been advised that it is safe for us to be in session today,” it said.

However, there is no police statement saying that the threat was ‘not credible’.

The school corporation added that a strong police presence is at both schools as a precaution.
