Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York is finally putting rumours about her romantic life to rest. In a conversation with Insider on Thursday, AOC confirmed that she has gotten engaged to her longtime partner Riley Roberts.

Also confirming the news on Twitter, the 32-year-old politician wrote, “It’s true! Thank you all for the well wishes.”

The duo said yes to each other last month in Puerto Rico. However, they haven’t finalized a date for their wedding as they wish to take “some space to savor this time before diving into planning,” Ocasio-Cortez told the news outlet.

Speculations of their wedding soon began circulating earlier in the day after the congresswoman was spotted by The Hill wearing a sparkly rock on her ring finger.

While she is an outspoken individual when it comes to politics, she often keeps her love life under the wraps.

Ocasio-Cortez and Roberts hail from contrasting corners of the United States. While AOC was born in the Bronx to an architect and a housekeeper and later relocated to the Yorktown suburbia, Roberts grew up in an affluent neighborhood of Arizona’s Paradise Valley.

The duo reportedly crossed paths while pursuing their respective degrees at Boston University. Roberts, who graduated with dual degrees in finance and sociology, moved back to Arizona after getting graduated. A few years down the line, the two met in New York City and rekindled their love story.

AOC, who graduated with dual degrees in economics and international relations, told Vogue in a 2018 interview that she met Roberts “in true nerdy fashion” at a weekly event hosted by the dean of the university.

Back in August, the 32-year-old Democrat was asked by a fan on Instagram- “what’s the key to a healthy relationship when your [significant other] when you’re always in the public eye.”

Answering the question on behalf of AOC, Robert said, “We spend mornings together, spend quality time together, browse TikTok together.”
