The January 6th committee revealed a number of new pieces of evidence to point out how Donald Trump had tried to mislead the country despite knowing that he had lost the 2020 presidential election. The hearing ended with the committee unanimously voting to subpoena the former president, who has himself lashed out against this on his own social media platform, Truth Social.

The January 6th committee also released a previously unseen footage during the October 13 hearings, which showed how Congressional leaders, both Democrats and Republicans, were being guided out of the Capitol on January 6, 2021, while the attack was going on.

The official Twitter account of the January 6th committee had tweeted out the video with the caption, “This previously unseen footage shows Congressional leaders—both Republicans and Democrats—as they were taken to a secure location during the January riot. Everyone involved was actively working to address the violence. All of them did what President Trump refused to do”.

In the video, one can see Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi as she tries to assess the situation. She can be seen shocked when told that floor members were having to wear gas masks in preparation for a breach. She is also seen speaking to the Secretary of the Department of Defense on a phone call in order to discuss what can be done to mitigate the situation. Then-Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer can also be seen in the video with Pelosi.

The 8th hearing of the January 6th committee is presumably its last before the November 8 US midterm elections. In this hearing, the committee revealed that the Secret Service had prior information from the FBI that the Proud Boys, a far-right group, were planning to march into Washington DC with weapons on January 6, 2021.
