As the Republicans are set to kickoff their national
convention on Monday, Democratic Presidential nominee Joe Biden maintains a 10-point lead
over President Donald Trump, a CBS News/YouGov poll shows.
Biden continues to lead the president 52% to 42%
among registered voters nationwide, according to the poll
conducted on August 23.
The new poll was released after the Democrats held
their virtual convention, where Biden officially accepted his nomination, and
delivered an “iconic” speech.
While the new poll indicates that Trump’s summer
slump may be reversing course, it still gives Biden a sizeable national lead.
Republicans will hold their virtual convention on Monday. Presidential candidates have historically seen bumps in their
poll numbers after their party’s nominating convention, but it’s unclear
whether this year’s online events will produce a similar uptick.

A major reason why Biden holds a slight edge over
President Trump is voters’ dissatisfaction with Trump’s handling of the
coronavirus pandemic, which has so far claimed 176,000 lives in the country, as
the country continues to be worst-affected in the world with over 5.68 million
cases.
As per AFP reports, Trump will be telling Americans that
he has answers to the coronavirus pandemic, economic turmoil and racial unrest.
As per reports, Trump and his top aides strived over
the weekend to put an optimistic spin on what will be a mostly online convention, as he heads Monday to North Carolina to formally launch the four-day
event.
