US President Joe Biden took to Twitter on Sunday urging Congress to vote for and pass the “For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act” soon.

This comes after Georgian Governor Brian Kemp signed the Election Integrity Act of 2021 into law recently. The legislation perceived to impact voter rights negatively.

Biden wrote we need to “prevent attacks on the sacred right to vote.” In a press conference, Biden said he will “do everything” in his power to halt efforts to restrict voting rights.

The two acts Biden has mentioned in his tweet, the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act aim to make voting in the United States more accessible and to uphold the ‘true sense of democracy’.

For the People Act would bring early voting, automatic voter registration, a minimum national standard for voting access, vote by mail into practice. It also gives previously convicted individuals the right to vote.

Teamed with the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act which aims to stop any sort of discrimination while voting intends to restore important protections against voter suppression.

If the Acts passes in Congress, it would be imposed all across America irrespective of its Republican or Democratic leadership.

The Georgian law reportedly limits drop boxes, allows unlimited challenges to voter eligibility and registration, and ban voters waiting in queue to receive any water bottle or snacks. This law is imposed only in the state of Georgia.

With major Republican support, the new Georgian law comes as the state witnessed a record-breaking turnout of voters which swung the elections in favour of the Democrats during the 2020 Presidential election.
