US President Joe Biden will travel to Britain in June in his first foreign trip as since assuming office, the White House said, reported AFP. He’ll travel to the European nation to attend the G7 summit. He’ll then travel to Brussels for NATO and EU summits.

Biden’s first foreign trip will “highlight his commitment to restoring our alliances, revitalizing the Transatlantic relationship, and working in close cooperation with our allies and multilateral partners to address global challenges and better secure America’s interests,” White House Press Secretary en Psaki said, reported AFP.

Biden’s predecessor, Donald Trump, had downgraded ties with European and Asian allies. The current President has, however, stressed the need to rebuild traditional alliances and put Washington back at the center of multilateral groups like the G7.

It isn’t however clear whether Biden will seek to include a potential summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin during the trip. He has offered to meet the Russian leader in a third country with an aim to stabilise ties.

The G7 summit is scheduled from  June 11-13 in Cornwall, England.

Biden will “reinforce our commitment to multilateralism, work to advance key US policy priorities on public health, economic recovery, and climate change, and demonstrate solidarity and shared values among major democracies,” the Press Secretary said.

The NATO summit is scheduled for June 14.
