President Joe Biden’s press conference following the G20 summit in New Delhi, India, took an unexpected turn when a member of his team abruptly ended the session while he was still addressing reporters. The incident occurred during Biden’s remarks in Hanoi, Vietnam, raising questions about the conclusion of the conference.
As President Biden was responding to a question, an unidentified voice was heard interjecting with, “thank you, everybody,” signaling the abrupt end of the press conference. President Biden also expressed gratitude before leaving the stage. According to CNN, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was responsible for concluding the president’s remarks.
During the press conference, President Biden fielded questions from reporters, ultimately taking five queries. He concluded by humorously announcing his intention to retire for the night.
However, as he began to depart, CNN correspondent Jeremy Diamond posed a question regarding the prioritization of U.S. strategic interests over human rights concerns. Diamond later discussed this exchange on CNN, emphasizing the complexities of the human rights situation in Vietnam and President Biden’s stance on the matter.
As President Biden walked away from the podium, he declined to respond to a question about concerns over his son, Hunter Biden, potentially facing indictment. Furthermore, during his remarks, he used the colorful phrase “lying, dog-faced pony soldiers” to describe those who previously denied the existence of “global warming.” He acknowledged the shifting perspective on climate change and emphasized its significance.
