Amber Alerts are issued in the US by an automated system that tracks child abductions and generates alerts. AMBER is the acronym for America’s Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response. It was created as a tribute to Amber Rene Hagerman, a teen who was abducted in 1996 and later discovered dead.

Its purpose is to take the public’s help in tracking down children when suspicion of abduction comes.
