US President Joe Biden, in a cracking voice and tears, vowed to hunt down the people responsible for the death of 13 US service members during the desperate Kabul evacuation on Thursday night.

After the Kabul explosion, which killed over 90 people, Biden addressed the nation from the White House. He bowed his head for a moment of silence before taking questions from journalists.

He was close to tears as he spoke of the dead “heroes.”

Biden has been facing criticism for withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan. The US soldiers started leaving Afghanistan in July and since then the Taliban started to capture many provinces. And, on August 15, the Taliban fighters captured Kabul. The Afghan government fell soon after and former president Ashraf Ghani fled the country.

Working around the clock for 10 days, his administration had thought perhaps it could still pull triumph from disaster.

The US was evacuating its citizens and Afghan translators flawlessly and the Taliban more or less keeping its end of the bargain in securing Kabul. More than 95,000 people safely flown out since Kabul’s fall to the Taliban.

After assuming Office, Biden had promised to bring back US troops from Afghanistan after two decades of war.

The ISIS had claimed responsibility for the attack in Kabul, said Biden, adding that “ISIS terrorists will not win”. He added, “We will respond with force and precision at our time, at the place we choose and the moment of our choosing”.

Biden says he has ordered his commanders “to develop operational plans to strike ISIS-K assets, leadership and facilities”, according to reports from ABC News.
