US Vice President-elect Kamala Harris had a telephonic conversation with her outgoing counterpart Mike Pence on Friday, reported AFP.

The details about the phone call have not been made available. However, according to The New York Times, Pence has officially congratulated Harris.

This has been the first recorded instance where the two have spoken after the Presidential debate before the elections.

Recently impeached and outgoing President Donald Trump has broken the tradition of congratulating the incoming President and has only acknowledged the victory of Joe Biden by promising a smooth transition of power.

That came a day after a violent riot by his supporters on the US Capitol which left five people dead and ensured the transition will be anything but. It also resulted in Trump becoming the first president ever to be impeached twice.

Trump had announced on Twitter that he will not be attending the Presidential inauguration while Pence has confirmed his presence at the event. The relationship between the two has taken a serious hit since the violent riots at the US Capitol on January 6.

Trump will be flying out to his club, Mar-a-Lago, in Florida on the day of the inauguration, reported AFP.

Trump’s supporters had stormed the building as Pence was presiding over the formal certification of Biden’s victory.

Trump had called on Pence to block the certification, which Pence refused to do as he did not have the constitutional authority.
