British police authorities said that at least six people, including a suspected gunman, had died in what is being described as a “serious firearms incident”, according to media reports.

Around 6 pm on Thursday, police officers from Cornwall and Devon were called to United Kingdom‘s Biddick Drive located in the Keyham area, where a shooting was reported. According to reports from BBC citing statements from the law enforcement officers involved in the response to the incident, a gunman in addition to three women and two men had died.

While remaining people died at the site of the incident, one woman succumbed to her injuries en route to the hospital.

The police also stated that all of the victims of the attack are believed to have suffered gunshot wounds.

While investigations around the matter are currently underway, law enforcement authorities announced that they were not searching for anyone else who could be connected to the incident, Additionally, the site has been cordoned off and those travelling in the Keyham area are likely to experience disruptions.

The statement read, “The area has been cordoned off and police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident. Investigations are continuing into the incident and disruption to the road network in the Keyham will remain throughout the night”, according to reports from BBC.

However, the incident has been deemed “non-terror related” in a tweet by Johnny Mercer, the Plymouth Moor View MP.

United Kingdom’s Home Secretary Preeti Patel wrote in a tweet, “The incident in Plymouth is shocking and my thoughts are with those affected. I have spoken to the Chief Constable and offered my full support. I urge everyone to remain calm, follow police advice and allow our emergency services to get on with their jobs.”

Witnesses to the incident described it as “horrendous and sad” while explaining the situation that unfolded in the Keyham area.

 “The shooter kicked in the door of a house and randomly started shooting … He ran from the house shooting as he ran and proceeded to shoot at a few people in the linear park up from the drive”, a witness told BBC.
