After urging women to get their “a** up and work”, American television personality Kim Kardashian has garnered backlash from several internet users and celebrities for speaking from a standpoint that comes off as privileged, offensive and tone-deaf.

In conversation with Variety earlier this week, Kim offered a piece of advice to women, stating that the “best advice” is to “get your f**ing a** up and work.”

“I have the best advice for women and business. Get your f**ing a** up and work. It seems like nobody wants to work these days,” she told Variety.

Kim’s sister Kourtney Kardashian then proceeded to agree with her statement and added, “That’s so true.” “You have to surround yourself with people that want to work.”

Responding to the controversial advice, English actor Jamila Jamil said, “nobody needs to hear your thoughts.”

“I think if you grew up in Beverly Hills with super successful parents in what was simply a smaller mansion. Nobody needs to hear your thoughts on success/work ethic. This same 24 hours in the day shit is a nightmare. 99.9% of the world grew up with a VERY different 24 hours,” Jamil wrote on Twitter.

Replying to Kim’s statement, columnist Meghan McCain wrote, “My advice for Kim Kardashian: Think twice before you tell America’s Covid-weary women to work harder.”

One internet user wrote, “Kim Kardashian telling women in business to get their a**es up and work the day after International Womens Day has to be the biggest joke of the year.”

On the other hand, another internet user defended Kim’s statement and empathized with the 41-year-old’s current dynamic with former husband Kanye West.

“I think we need to cut Kim Kardashian a break here. She’s currently being harassed by her ex. I don’t think she meant anything negative by ‘work hard’. And yes, a lot has been handed to her. But you can’t deny she, too, has worked really hard.”

Another user added, “I hope you don’t apologise Kim; some people don’t want to work that’s a fact. You never said no-one wants to work.”
