Lashawn McNeil, a gunman who shot New York City Police Department officers Jason Rivera and Wilbert Mora in Harlem on Friday, succumbed to injuries at a hospital on Monday morning.

Police had responded to the suspect’s mother’s Harlem apartment on Friday after the woman called to complain that he had threatened to hurt her during an argument. She, however, made no mention of him being armed during the call.

When the officers arrived at the scene, the suspect shot Rivera and Mora before a third cop shot him. While Rivera, a 22-year-old newlywed, died at the hospital, Mora remained in extremely critical condition as of Sunday night.

The suspect had a criminal history, including a gun charge in North Carolina, an assault on a cop in Pennsylvania and a felony narcotics charge in New York City and was on probation at the time of the shooting.

McNeil was reportedly having a disagreement with his mother about the lack of vegan food available in the apartment before the shooting on Friday.

Meanwhile, an autopsy concluded that Rivera died from gunshot wounds to the head and torso. A funeral service is scheduled for Friday at St. Patrick’s Cathedral.

On Sunday, Rivera’s widow posted a moving tribute to her husband on Instagram.

‘Fly high my beautiful angel. Yesterday I visited the locker room where you used to FaceTime me at during your meal time or right before you had to go downstairs to the muster room for roll call at 15:00. Last night was supposed to be your day 5 & you were RDO [off] for the next three days. We both waited for your RDO’s to spend them together. But now your soul will spend the rest of my days with me, through me, right beside me. I love you till the end of time,” she wrote.
