Lionel Messi is slowly beginning to regain his past form.
The little maestro put in his best shift as a Paris Saint Germain player in the
Ligue 1 fixture against Lyon on Sunday, when he made his home full debut. PSG coach Mauricio Pochettino chose to go with
the famed MNM trio of Messi, Neymar and Mbappe. The three are yet to click
together, but when they do it’s certainly going to be scary for other teams and
a delight to watch.

Messi came close to scoring on two occasions. His freekick
hit the crossbar and he forced a good save out of Lyon’s goalkeeper Anthony
Lopes. It was naturally surprising when the Argentinian was brought off for
Achraf Hakimi in the 75th minute.

Leo had a puzzled expression on his face and it appeared
like he refused to shake hands with the coach. He made a gesture with his hands
as if to say that he did not understand the decision. Pochettino tried to
explain his decision in the post-match press conference saying, “Everyone knows we have great players in the squad, we
have 35 players. But we must make decisions for the good of the team. Sometimes
they lead to a positive result and sometimes not.”

He added, “These are decisions
we need to take. Sometimes it pleases people, or it doesn’t. I asked him how he
was, and he said he was fine.”

PSG eventually went on to win
the game in stoppage time with a last-minute winner from Mauro Icardi. The French
giants sit on top of the league table, 5 points ahead of second placed Marseille
having played one more game.

If past precedents are anything
to go by the fans should not be worried about Messi finding the back of the
net. He has hit the crossbar twice this season and it isn’t long before he hits
one at the back of net.

It remains to be seen whether
Mauricio Pochettino is the right fit to manage a star-studded dressing room.
