As the year 2022 is about to end, Americans are looking
forward to the federal holidays of the coming year 2023.
The welcoming of 2023 on January 1 will also mark the beginning
of 2023’s Federal holidays in the United States. However, New Year’s Day is
falling on a Sunday so, the next day i.e., Monday, January 2 will be the first federal
holiday of the year.

Following are the United States federal holidays of the year
2023:

New Year’s Day- Sunday, January 1 (will be
observed on the following day i.e., Monday, January 2)

King Jr. Day– Monday, January 16

President’s Day-

4.
Memorial Day– Monday, May 29
5.
Juneteenth– Friday, June 16
6.
Independence Day- Tuesday, July 4
7.
Labor Day- Monday, September 4
8.
Indigenous
Peoples’ Day or Columbus Day – Monday,
October 9
9.
Veterans’ Day– Saturday, November 11 (will be observed on the
previous day i.e., Friday, November 10)
10.
Thanksgiving– Thursday, November 23
11.
Christmas– Monday, December 25
The United States Federal holidays consist of 11 days that hold
significance for Americans.

This concept of Federal holidays was introduced in 1885 by US Congress.
It was decided that federal workers/employees should also have paid offs from
work for which certain 11 days of the year are non-working days for people in
the federal sector. Two functions of the government that still continue to work
on federal holidays with limited public access are border control and law
enforcement.

Employees in the private sector do not always get an off on the federal
holidays as it depends on their employers. In the same way, banks and schools may
or may not be closed.
Americans are all set to celebrate New Year and bring in 2023
along with their first Federal Holiday.
