Los Angeles and Orange County are celebrating today as Kobe Bryant, honoring the late Los Angeles Lakers legend, reported NBC.

Los Angeles City Council resolution had declared August 24 as ‘Kobe Bryant Day’ in 2016, in accordance to his jersey number. Kobe wore the No. 8 his first 10 seasons and 24 for the final 10. The Orange County Board of Supervisors on August 11 declared August 24 as ‘Kobe Bryant Day’.

City Councilman Jose Huizar, who introduced the resolution told NBC, “It doesn’t matter how down you are. It doesn’t matter what hardships you face. You keep showing up, you keeping practicing, you keep going and yes you keep winning and here in LA.”

The  Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday honored the memories of Kobe and Gianna Bryant on what would have been Kobe’s 42nd birthday. Dodger players wore Kobe’s No. 8 and 24 jerseys and the team played a tribute video narrated by retired broadcaster Vin Scully.

Scully told NBC, “Kobe demonstrated that he was a man of many talents. He was a champion, a mentor, a creative force, an advocate.” He added, “Kobe was also a husband and a father to four wonderful girls. The warrior that we knew as ‘The Black Mamba’ was a sweetheart to his wife Vanessa and a proud ‘Girl Dad’ to Natalia, Bianka, Capri and his daughter known as ‘the Mambacita,’ Gianna.”

Kobe played his entire career with the Lakers, helping them win five NBA championships, and was chosen as the NBA Finals MVP for both of the two most recent championships.
