A carjacking suspect on the 91 Freeway, in Los Angeles, crashed into a police car and was taken into custody on Friday.

The suspect’s arrest followed a chase in which the suspect allegedly fired multiple shots at the police.

Although not through confirmed sources, some reports say that the suspect was firing from an AK-47 gun.

Multiple law enforcement agencies were responding to the incident on 91 Freeway and the suspect was being labeled “extremely dangerous”. Reports say that while firing at the police, the suspect hit a pedestrian on the road as he drove away recklessly from the police. Details of the person’s injury could not be confirmed by the reports.

It has been confirmed that a total of four rounds were fired during the chase, after which the suspect crashed between a police car that was trying to corner the vehicle and a traffic light pole. The identity of the suspect has not been revealed yet.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, there were 5,976 reported carjackings in 2021, a 40% increase from the previous year. The majority of these carjackings have occurred in high-traffic areas, such as parking lots and gas stations, and have often been carried out at gunpoint. Criminals have also been known to target luxury vehicles, which can fetch a high price on the black market.

The LAPD has urged residents to be vigilant and take precautions, such as avoiding leaving their cars running unattended and being aware of their surroundings. They have also increased patrols in areas with high rates of carjacking and are working with neighboring police departments to combat the issue.
