Two days after Connor Sturgeon walked into the Old National Bank in Louisville, Kentucky, and shot dead five people and injured several others, his family has responded to the incident condemning what they described as “senseless acts of violence” committed by Sturgeon.

“No words can express our sorrow, anguish, and horror at the unthinkable harm our son Connor inflicted on innocent people, their families, and the entire Louisville community,” the family said in a statement they issued on April 12, 2023.

“We mourn their loss and that of our son, Connor. We pray for everyone traumatized by his senseless acts of violence and are deeply grateful for the bravery and heroism of the Louisville Metropolitan Police Department,” they continued.

“While Connor, like many of his contemporaries, had mental health challenges which we, as a family, were actively addressing, there were never any warning signs or indications he was capable of this shocking act.”

“While we have many unanswered questions, we will continue to cooperate fully with law enforcement officials and do all we can to aid everyone in understanding why and how this happened,” they concluded.

According to reports, Sturgeon was a former employee of the bank and was notified that would be fired. In revenge, he decided to walk into the bank with an AR-15-style rifle and shot dead five people, before being neutralized by a responding police officer.

Tommy Elliott, 63 Jim Tutt, 64 Josh Barrick, 40 Juliana Farmer, 57, and Deana Eckert, 57 were identified as the victims of the shooting by the police. Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel, the interim chief of the Louisville Metro Police Department, said yesterday that the suspect was live-streaming the shooting on Instagram. The police later said that they have worked with the platform to take the video down.

“I will say this, that the suspect was live streaming. And unfortunately, that’s tragic. To know that that incident was out there and captured,” Gwinn-Villaroel said.
