Metro Police reported that officers rushed to a second shooting in Louisville on the same day, hours after a major shooting at a bank in the city’s center. According to Louisville Metro Police, a shooting occurred on Monday outside a Jefferson Community & Technical College facility in the downtown area, leaving one person dead and another injured.

Around 11 a.m., according to the department, officers arrived at 8th and Chestnut to investigate the report. When the authorities showed up they discovered a man and a woman with bullet wounds.

At this point, there isn’t a suspect in custody. Both the name of the woman who was taken to UofL Hospital and the name of the man who passed away have not yet been made public.

The suspects ran away before police arrived, according to the law enforcement’s social media posts. “Due to the location of this shooting, officers searched [JCTCS] to make sure the facility was clear of any other possible threats or victims,” they said.

“We are confirming that there was a shooting outside, and the suspects fled prior to police arrival,” LMPD wrote on Twitter shortly after 11 a.m. “There is NO active aggressor at JCTC at 8th Chestnut streets,” they added.

At 12:20 pm, JCTC issued a statement announcing that all of its campuses were now safe and closed for the day. “We can confirm there was a shooting outside of the Technical Campus Building A, and there is no active aggressor on our campuses,” said the statement. “All Jefferson campuses are clear with the exception of the Technical Campus, which will remain on lockdown due to police protocol.”

This second shooting occurred immediately after a shooter killed four people and injured at least eight others, including two officers, at the Old National Bank in downtown Louisville. The shooter, whose name has yet to be revealed, was killed. It is unknown whether he succumbed as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound or if he was fatally shot by the authorities.
