Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance, on Tuesday, called for a grand jury to address the case of former US President Donald Trump‘s business in an attempt to formally indict those involved.

The case revolves around the Trump Organization, which is under investigation for allegedly inflating values of assets for tax benefits, according to US media reports.

The Washington Post reported that the panel could also indict top executives at the Trump Organization if criminal charges are formally put forward.

The grand jury is scheduled to convene for the duration of six months, meeting thrice every week. Moreover, it is likely to cover larger ground by expanding the scope of the case and discuss matters beyond the Trump Organization probe.

New York Attorney General Letitia James also formally joined the investigation earlier this month.

James’ spokesperson said in a statement, “We have informed the Trump Organization that our investigation into the organization is no longer purely civil in nature. We are now actively investigating the Trump Organization in a criminal capacity, along with the Manhattan DA”, reported CNN.

The former President, who left office in January this year, labelled the investigation as a “witch hunt”, which has been going on for more than two years now.

The summoning of the panel hints that the District Attorney’s office could have credible evidence against the Trump Organization, reported Washington Post.
