At the age of 73, Martin Amis passed away on Friday at his home in Lake Worth, Florida. With his incisive critique of tabloid culture and consumer excess, his acerbic and darkly humorous novels reshaped British literature in the 1980s and 1990s, and his personal life turned him into media entertainment himself.
Esophageal cancer, which also claimed the life of Martin’s close friend and colleague writer Christopher Hitchens in 2011, was the cause of his death as well, according to his wife, the writer Isabel Fonseca.

In 1994, Amis divorced his first wife, Antonia, and moved on with Fonseca, a younger lady who, according to Hitchens in a previous interview, was the target of Salman Rushdie‘s attention. Martin had two daughters with Fonseca, Fernanda Amis, and Clio Amis.
Delilah’s mother Lamorna Heath was the wife of writer Patrick Seale. However, Heath had an affair with Martin, and Delilah was born. Later, when Delilah was only two, her mother hanged herself. Today, Delilah is not a writer, other than the storytelling involved in 10 years of working in television. In 2008, Delilah Seale had a son, making Mr. Amis a grandfather. Her current priorities are starting her own small family and enjoying the joys of parenthood.
