A gunman opened fire in a parking lot in Fort Worth, Texas, killing 3 and injuring 8, including a minor on the 4th of July eve.

The shooting took place in the Texas city’s southwest Como neighborhood on Diaz Avenue and Horne Street around 11:40 pm. The gunman is still at large and has not been identified by the police yet. As bullets rang out, revelers flooded out of the area, making it difficult for first responders to treat the victims.

According to Fort Worth Police Sgt. Jason Spencer, there was a “large crowd gathering” in the parking lot. Captain Shawn Murray said: “A lot of vehicle traffic, a lot of foot traffic. Fireworks were being shot off, lots of people just trying to flee the area from the multiple gun shots, so it was difficult for them to navigate quickly into the area.”

One victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Others were rushed to the hospital in private cars and ambulances. 2 of the victims succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. The condition of the others is presently unknown.

It was not immediately clear what had caused the gunfire, No motive has been revealed yet. Two blocks of Horne Street have been cordoned off.

“We don’t know if this is domestic-related, if it is gang-related. It is too early to tell at this point. We just know somebody shot and multiple times and a bunch of people were injured. Hopefully it is just a single shooter and wasn’t a crossfire situation. Homicide will figure that out,” Murray added.

This is a developing story.
