A shooting at Peck Park in San Pedro, Los Angeles, California, has reportedly left several persons injured. According to Fox3, three people have died and six have been injured.

First responders from the Los Angeles Fire Department and police from the Los Angeles Police Department are on the scene. According to Fox, one suspect has been apprehended. The LAPD has announced that there is no longer an active shooter scenario at Peck Park.

Despite California having some of the strictest gun laws in the United States, gun violence in Los Angeles is not uncommon. In 2022 alone, as of August 24, there have been multiple other mass shootings reported in and around the city. Following are the incidents:

July 21

Two men shot four people standing outside a CVS in the Historic Core. Officers discovered two males and a lady who had been shot. A third man who was shot called the police and was found near the scene. According to witnesses, two males fled the scene. Two of the victims were brought to a hospital in uncertain condition, while the victim who dialled 911 denied treatment.

July 11

On this day two men robbed six 7-Eleven locations and a Yum-Yum Donuts at gunpoint around Southern California in the early morning hours. During the robbery, one of the men shot five persons at four convenience stores, killing two. The shooter is also accused of murdering a homeless man two days earlier in Los Angeles’ North Hills area.

June 12

During a shooting during a rapper’s birthday party performance in the Boyle Heights neighbourhood, three persons were killed and four others were injured. Two security officers were injured.

February 12

An argument between a group of men outside an Italian restaurant holding a Justin Bieber party erupted when a shooter opened fire, hurting four people, including rapper Kodak Black.

January 9

A gunman opened fire on a large party in South Los Angeles, injuring five people, while another party guest returned fire, injuring the shooter. The shooter escaped in a car, which crashed and killed him at a hospital.
