San Francisco Mayor London Breed, a Democrat, was spotted unmasked at a music show in the Black Cat nightclub in Tenderloin on Thursday, according to US media reports.

Cell phone videos, obtained by the San Francisco Chronicle, showed Breed enjoying a surprise performance by Bay Area R&B group, Tony! Toni! Toné!, without a face covering amid an unmasked crowd throughout the duration of the indoor event. However, the city’s COVID-19 protocol only allows for masks to be removed “while actively eating or drinking.” It states, “People are urged to be seated at a table or positioned at a stationary counter or place while eating or drinking,” according to SFGate reports.

Meanwhile, the San Francisco Chronicle further reported that Breed was neither seated at a table nor positioned at a stationary counter but she was standing and dancing without any food or drinks in her hand.

She was also seen posing for photos while not wearing a mask.

However, in a statement to The Chronicle, Breed defended her actions and said, “at the end of the day, everyone who comes in here has to show proof of vaccination. That gives me a lot of reassurance.”

Although San Francisco does have one of the highest vaccination rates in the country, the city’s mask mandate does not allow exemptions for businesses requiring proof of vaccination status for entry.
