Disgraced attorney Michael Avenatti was sentenced Thursday for stealing nearly $300,000 in book advance money from porn star Stormy Daniels.

Avenatti was sentenced to four years in prison for cheating his client. The sentence means that Avenatti will spend another 2 1/2 years in prison on top of the 2 1/2 years he is already serving after another fraud conviction.

Judge Jesse M. Furman said in court that Avenatti’s crime was made “out of desperation” when his law firm was struggling. Avenatti’s behavior was labelled “craven and egregious” and was blamed on “blind ambition.”
