Former Vice President of the United States, Mike Pence, has written an autobiography called So Help Me God, and it has already caused quite a stir in the American political climate, owing to the fact that it will be released in close proximity to the 2022 midterm elections. In the book, he states that it was an advertisement by the PAC Lincoln Project that angered former President Donald Trump and drove him towards attempting to overturn the 2020 presidential election results.

Pence was in the eye of the storm during the 2021 January 6 Capitol riots, when he refused to overturn the election’s outcome despite being coerced by Trump. After the riot subsided, it was Pence who reconvened Congress and worked towards a peaceful transfer of power.

In the book, Pence suggests that it was the advertisement that “the first time anyone implied” the former VP could preside over the counting of votes and change the results on his own. He went on to call the adverisement “irresponsible”.

On December 8, 2020, Lincoln Project ran the commercial, which was shown on stations in the Washington, DC, and Palm Beach, Florida media markets. Members of the Lincoln Project publicly acknowledged at that time that the goal of the effort was to influence Trump’s television viewing behaviour.
