A hail storm battered central Minnesota and parts of the Twin Cities on Friday afternoon. Hail was reported in Plymouth, Rockford, Golden Valley, and Robbinsdale.

Several residents took to social media to share photos and videos of the hail storm. The hail was as large as Tennis balls up to 2 inches in diameter.

The National Weather Service Twin Cities issued a warning saying golf ball sized hail is expected in some areas.

“Severe Thunderstorm Warning including Minneapolis MN, Saint Paul MN and Bloomington MN until 6:00 PM CDT. This storm will contain golf ball sized hail!” NWS tweeted.

NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center issued a statement saying, “Several strong to severe thunderstorm clusters are forecast to develop and pose a risk for large hail and damaging gusts. A few supercells are also possible and may pose a locally higher hail risk.”

A wind gust of 68 mph was reported in St. Paul. Over 25,000 homes and businesses were without power in Minnesota and western Wisconsin.

Meanwhile, a Tornado was confirmed near Hayfield.
