Warren Limmer, Minnesota Republican, was trolled with Cheech & Chong references for his ‘smaller joints’ comment during a marijuana legalization debate. The bill passed the Senate 34-33 with all Democrats saying yes and Republicans no.

A companion version of the bill was passed in the House on Tuesday. The votes stood at 71-59. Now the proceedings will go to a House-Senate conference committee, which will resolve the differences before final votes.

The bill would allow adults, 21 years or older, to purchase and sell cannabis. They will also be allowed to possess up to 1.5 pounds and grow up to eight plants at home. Up to two ounces will be allowed to be carried in public places.

“Now I’ve seen videos of DEA raids,” Limmer said.

“Some of these plants are 8, 10 feet tall. You can have 8 of them. You can have a privacy fence made of these products in your backyard,” he added.

“Just two ounces is equivalent to three joints,” Limmer argued.

Twitter users immediately started trolling him.

“This Republican took Cheech and Chong a bit too literally,” a Twitter user said.

“Even Cheech and Chong would have trouble with that math,” another one added.

“The prohibition of cannabis is a failed system that has not achieved the desired goals and has had incredible costs for our communities, especially for communities of color,” Lindsey Port, a Democrat, said on the floor.

“We have an opportunity today to vote green to undo some of the harm that has been done and create a unique system of regulation that works for Minnesota consumers and businesses, while ensuring an opportunity in this new market for communities that have been most affected by prohibition,” she added.
